A Historic Milestone for the Global TMJ Community
The International Association of Temporomandibular Joint (IATMJ) formally comes into existence on 29 June 2026 with the convening of its 1st Inauguration Ceremony and Founding General Assembly, held at the Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand.
This landmark event marks the transition of IATMJ from a founding vision into a fully constituted international professional and academic society — the world's first multidisciplinary association dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders across seven clinical disciplines: TMJ Surgery, Orthodontics, Orthognathic Surgery, Craniomaxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, CMD/Rehabilitation, and Imaging & Radiology.
The Inauguration Ceremony will take place from 18:00-19:00 in the Main Hall, immediately following the scientific programme of Day 1 of the 7th Asia–Euro Symposium, and will be followed by a Welcome Dinner.
What Will Happen at the Founding General Assembly
The Founding General Assembly, constituted of all 36 Founding Members from 15 countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, Middle East will formally:
• Adopt the IATMJ Charter (Final Version, June 2026)
• Elect the Founding President by a two-thirds majority of Founding Members
• Ratify the Vice-Presidents and Regional Chairs for Asia and Europe by simple majority
• Confer the honorary title of Honorary President upon the European Co-Founder
Founding Members who are unable to attend in person may exercise their full voting rights by correspondence, using the Founding Member Approval Form (deadline: 25 June 2026; return to: secretariat@iatmj.org).
A Natural Partnership: IATMJ and the 7th Asia–Euro Symposium
The Inauguration Ceremony is deliberately co-located with the 7th Asia–Euro Symposium, hosted by Mahidol University and co-hosted by Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital (Shanghai Jiao Tong University) and the International Medical College (IMC), TU Dresden. The three-day symposium — running from 29 June to 1 July 2026 — brings together distinguished faculty from across Asia, Europe, and the Americas for keynote lectures, focused symposia, young surgeon oral presentations, live surgery demonstrations (TMJ arthroscopic surgery and total joint replacement), and cadaveric workshops.
The 7th Asia–Euro Symposium is the direct scientific home from which IATMJ emerges, and its faculty roster — including Prof. Chi Yang, Prof. Ulrich Joos, Prof. Ajoy Roychoudhury, Prof. Julio Acero Sanz, Prof. Richard Su, Prof. Raymond Wong, and colleagues from China, India, Germany, Spain, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand — represents the founding scientific community of the Association.
An Invitation to the International TMJ Community
The inauguration of IATMJ is an open moment for the international TMJ and maxillofacial community. All symposium participants are warmly invited to attend the Inauguration Ceremony in the Main Hall on the evening of 29 June.
