Your field. Your community. Your credentials.

Hundreds of millions of people live with TMJ disorders, yet the clinicians who treat them have never had a global home of their own. Until now.

When you join IATMJ, you become part of the only international association whose entire focus is the temporomandibular joint — across every discipline that touches it. You gain access to a credentialing pathway that is independently assessed and designed to be recognized worldwide. And you join a peer network of TMJ surgeons, orthodontists, orthognathic surgeons, CMF surgeons, prosthodontists, rehabilitation specialists, and imaging experts spanning Asia, Europe, and beyond.

Membership is not a badge on your CV. It is a working toolkit — structured education, a qualification ladder, access to a global outcome registry, and a seat in the community that is writing the first international clinical guidelines specifically for TMJ care.

Whether you are a trainee just starting out, an experienced specialist ready to formalise your expertise, or a hospital looking to become a Certified Education Centre — there is a place in IATMJ for you.

Is IATMJ right for you?

IATMJ welcomes qualified clinicians and institutions from all seven TMJ disciplines: TMJ surgery, orthodontics, orthognathic surgery, craniomaxillofacial surgery (CMF), prosthodontics, CMD / orofacial rehabilitation, and imaging & radiology. Here is how membership works:

The application process

Applying is straightforward. Submit your application online; the Secretary-General reviews it and your regional councilor confirms eligibility. The Executive Committee then endorses your application and the General Assembly gives final admission. The Secretary-General can grant provisional acceptance in the meantime so you do not have to wait. Annual subscriptions keep your membership active — if fees fall into arrears after monthly reminders, membership terminates automatically at the year end.

On admission, all members agree to uphold the IATMJ Charter and Code of Conduct — the shared standards that keep this community credible and independent.

Everything membership gives you

1

Education & training access

As a member, you pay less for every IATMJ-accredited course — from online foundational modules you can work through at your own pace, to cadaveric hands-on specialty training, to our flagship six-day live-surgery mini-residency. The discount is meaningful at every level.

2

Credentialing pathway

Members have access to a clear qualification ladder, independently administered by the German Surgical Foundation (GSF). Progress from Level 1 core modules all the way through to the IATMJ credential — complete with an internationally verifiable digital badge. Your credential is listed in the IATMJ global registry and renewed every three years through continuing professional development.

3

Global outcome registry

Contribute your cases to — and draw insights from — the IATMJ multicenter TMJ outcome registry. It is the first dedicated global dataset of its kind, and it is what makes our guidelines, health technology assessments, and clinical audit meaningful.

4

Congress & symposia

Reduced registration for the biennial IATMJ World Congress and our flagship Asia-Europe Symposium Series, with priority access to regional congresses, hands-on workshops, and local learning club events throughout the year.

5

Global directory listing

Active Members and credential-holders are listed in the IATMJ global directory — making it easy for patients, institutions, and colleagues worldwide to find you and understand what you are qualified to do.

6

Scientific resources

Stay current with IATMJ consensus statements and clinical guidelines as they are published — the shared evidence base that the whole community helps build.

7

Community & network

Connect with colleagues across all seven disciplines and every active region — through interdisciplinary referral networks, thematic study groups, and faculty development programs for those who want to take on a recognized teaching role within the Association.

8

Governance participation

Active Members in good standing have a real voice in how IATMJ is run — with full voting rights at the General Assembly, the ability to stand for elected office, and the opportunity to serve on committees that shape the Association's scientific program, education, credentialing, research, and regional development.

Ready to join?
Here is how.

Ready to join? The application takes just a few minutes online. Here is what you will need:

Personal and professional details

Your name, primary discipline, institution, country of practice, and professional registration number.

A brief professional statement

A short description of your involvement or interest in TMJ care, and the discipline you are applying under — TMJ surgery, orthodontics, orthognathic surgery, CMF surgery, prosthodontics, CMD / orofacial rehabilitation, or imaging & radiology.

Supporting documentation

Proof of your specialist qualification or registration. Specialist Trainee applicants will need a letter from their program director. Institutions should include a brief overview of their faculty and training facilities.

Declaration and consent

A simple confirmation that you agree to uphold the IATMJ Charter and Code of Conduct.

We review applications on a rolling basis. You will hear back within four weeks with an acknowledgement and a provisional decision. Final admission is confirmed by the General Assembly — either at the next Congress or by written resolution in between meetings.

Your first year's fee is invoiced on admission, and annually after that. Rates are adjusted for purchasing power by country — so wherever you are in the world, the fee is set at a level that works for you. Get in touch with the Secretariat to find out your rate, or to ask about institutional membership.
