IATMJ Council Announces Nominations for Founding President and Vice-Presidents

The Council of the International Association of Temporomandibular Joint (IATMJ) formally announces the nomination of three distinguished surgeons for the founding leadership positions of the Association, ahead of the 1st Inauguration Ceremony and Founding General Assembly on 29 June 2026 at Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand.



A Constitutional Moment

In accordance with Article 8.2 of the IATMJ Charter, the Founding President shall be nominated by the Central Committee and shall assume office upon approval by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of the Founding Members at the Founding General Assembly. Vice-Presidents are nominated by the Founding President and approved by a simple majority of the Founding Members for a founding term of five years, in accordance with Article 8.3. Each Vice-President serves as Regional Chair and sits on the Executive Board. The following nominations have been formally put forward to the Founding Members for approval.

The Significance of These Nominations

These three nominations represent the founding scientific and geographic pillars of IATMJ.


Professor Chi Yang brings to the Presidency an unparalleled record in TMJ endoscopic surgery, digital innovation, and clinical research, with over 10,000 procedures performed and one of the world's largest TMJ clinical cohorts. As the creator of the Yang Endoscopic Disc Repositioning Method and Founding President of IATMJ, he will lead the Association's global agenda from its inception.


Professor Ajoy Roychoudhury brings to the Asian Regional Chair decades of leadership at AIIMS New Delhi — one of Asia's most prestigious institutions — and a distinguished record in complex TMJ and orthognathic surgery. His nomination anchors IATMJ's commitment to developing a strong, inclusive clinical community across the Asian region.


Professor Julio Acero Sanz brings to the European Regional Chair his standing as one of Europe's foremost craniomaxillofacial surgeons, his leadership at two major university hospitals in Madrid, and his deep engagement with the European surgical society and international surgical landscape. His nomination positions IATMJ firmly within the heart of European academic surgery.


Voting Instructions for Founding Members


All Founding Members are invited to cast their votes at the Founding General Assembly, 18:00-19:00 on 29 June 2026, Main Hall, Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University. Founding Members who cannot attend in person may vote by correspondence using the Founding Member Approval Form. Completed forms must be returned to secretariat@iatmj.org no later than 25 June 2026.
